My son is a student at Sawtry Community College, which has had a bad rap recently, but as a parent I have been made aware of the College’s ambition to turn this all around.
They are dedicated to making the College somewhere that parents want to send their kids, and a place that kids want to attend. Their plans stretch wider than just changing the colour of the uniform. They have huge plans to improve the learning environment which will require new buildings. However, they have a couple of existing buildings that could just do with a freshen up.
This weekend I am going to join their Make a Difference (“MAD”) task force, being organised by Friends of Sawtry Community College (FoSCC), to help improve students learning experience at the College.
They are looking for volunteers like me (adults or older teenagers) who can give up just a few hours on Saturday 21st March from 9am to help paint, clean, lay slabs, use a jet wash, fill skips and anyone with carpentry skills.
I have grabbed a load of volunteer forms from the College entrance which I am happy to email across or you could contact the College direct on 01487 830701.
I hope that as a parent or friend of the College, you feel able to give up some of your time to help, and if so, I look forward to working with you on Saturday.
