MIKE BAILEY

Mike Bailey, who died on January 6th, served on the Parish Council for over 5 years. Mainly due to his interest in the countryside, he soon became chairman of the Highways and Police Liaison Committee. He was seen most days exercising his dog from his home in St Judith’s Lane. He knew all the footpaths around the village and strove to keep them maintained for everyone’s enjoyment. He was a keen supporter of the local shoots, and spent much of his time, especially during the winter, observing the local wildlife.

He was a forceful character, and pursued various campaigns with great determination. Debates in council were often lively affairs. Mike was a person with strong opinions, and right up to his death, he let us know what he thought about projects we were engaged upon, or things he thought we should be directing our energies towards.

Some time after he left the Parish Council, he volunteered to be a member of the Parish Plan committee, serving as the Chairman for part of this time. The results of this work will benefit the village for many years to come.

The village has lost one of its characters. Our sympathy is extended to his widow, Janet, and the family.

R G Tuplin
Chairman
