SAWTRY SHOW –
Saturday September 8th – Categories will include vegetables,
flowers, cookery, arts and crafts, wines and beers, photography, and
children’s categories. Schedules are now available from the Parish
Council office. UPDATE FROM THE PARISH COUNCIL OFFICE A big concern over the last few months has been vandalism to the Old School Hall. We have increased the number of security lights and are also looking into the cost of having CCTV installed. The vandalism has cost over £1000 in repairs in the period from December to March. This is money that should be spent on the community and improving facilities for all, not on the criminal minority. I would ask that if you see anyone carrying out acts of vandalism anywhere in the village you report this to the police. On a lighter note – the Carols on the Green (seems like a long time ago) raised £64.20 which was donated to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as requested by Lola Gunn (from Sawtry Veterinary Clinic), who organised the refreshments. Many thanks to Lola for helping to make the evening a success. The WWF appreciate how much time, skill and energy goes into organising fundraising events and wanted to pass on their thanks to all who supported the Carols on the Green. Fairtrade – products are sourced from accredited countries where projects are underway to help communities achieve social, economic and environmental sustainability. Growers are paid a fair price to give them better working conditions for themselves and their families. At the Full Council meeting on 14th March the Parish Council agreed that they would support Fairtrade wherever it was practicable and reasonable to do so. In the future Fairtrade refreshments will be provided at Council meetings. We will be actively encouraging local work places and community organisations to support Fairtrade. A steering group will be formed to ensure the progress and continued commitment to the Campaign. More details in the next Sawtry Eye. Anglia in Bloom 2007 – it has been decided to enter Anglia in Bloom again this year and also to run two competitions as part of our entry. These will be – Best Front Garden and Best Hanging Basket. There is no charge to enter. The aim of Anglia in Bloom is to ‘make our village look as attractive as possible all year round with sustainable planting, adding seasonal material for colour’. For details of how to be involved please contact myself or Sally at the Parish Council Office. We can all help to keep our village tidy by using the litter bins provided. Parish Council maintenance staff pick up litter around the village on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and HDC pick up litter from the main streets on Thursdays.
Doggie Bags – are
available at the office for you to collect (provided by HDC), from
time to time we do run out of supplies and we ask that you continue
to act responsibly and use alternative methods for clearing up after
your dog. A big thank you to all the responsible dog owners of the
village.
