Sawtry became County Youth Champions with a controlled display ot football comfortably seeing off a rather feeble challenge by a below full strength St Lves Youth.
"We have just had too much football", confessed Neville
Nania. Sawtry were inspired by an outstanding
performance from Man of the Match Chris Adams who had the pace and ability to create panic in the St lves defence. |
Sponsor Roger Gayton had travelled from Somerset to present the trophy and medals and he paid tribute to both sides for
an entertaining and competitive game. Sawtry settled into their rhythm quickly and dominated the first half but were disappointing in their finishing. Enjoying much the better share of possession they showed a tendency to shoot from too far out and the capable Alan Harling was easily able to keep his goal intact. |
With four minutes left substitute Dan Rostron knocked
down a cross and Chris Adams pounced to put the result beyond doubt. St
Ives evening was summed up when Will Fordham was sent off after bringing down Adams from behind and picking up a second yellow card. Finally in injury time Adams robbed Paul Jenner and picked his spot
for the goal of the game.
