SAWTRY LADIES HOCKEY CLUB

Considering our captain, Lizzie, has got a long term injury and will be out of contention for the remainder of the season, the team have got off to an above average start to this season. We have also managed to find a couple of new recruits, and they have settled down in the team very well. Karen, our goalkeeper, has ably taken over duties as team captain.

In the Cup, where we finished Runners Up last season, we have been drawn in the more difficult of the two groups, and have 4 points from a possible 6 to date. This year’s format is to play our two opponents home and away, which means more games than last year. Cambridge City 4, Market Deeping and St Ives 3 make up our little Cup league, with the final being in March 2008.

After the first 6 games of the season in the league, we currently lie 4th, but with the weather closing in, some games could be postponed if the frost hits the Astroturf at Bushfields and elsewhere. It’s too dangerous to play hockey on frosted pitches.

Our fixture list between now and Christmas gives us 2 Cup matches and 1 league match. Then we start off the New Year with another Cup match against St Ives 3 in St Ives on the 12th January.

24th November Cambridge City 4 Home in the Cup
1st December Market Deeping Away in the Cup
8th December City of Peterborough Away
