Acupuncture seeks to identify the syndrome that reflects your constitutional type as well as the one underlying your specific complaint. Syndromes are recognised by a combination of signs and symptoms e.g. distribution of heat and cold in the body, emotional state, pulse and tongue diagnosis, sleep patterns, appetite and digestion.
Treatment is the process of re-establishing the energy balance of the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the body, and is done in two ways. One is the painless insertion of fine stainless steel needles into acupuncture points, either stimulating or reducing the flow of energy in a specific meridian. The other is the application of warmth. Both methods are often used in combination, and as the balance improves, so does health.
Osteopathy lays its main emphasis on the healing of the structural and mechanical imbalances of the body, and is based on an established system of diagnosis and manual treatment. Osteopaths work primarily with their hands; they use a wide variety of treatment techniques, including massage, stretching, mobilisation and manipulation, all of which are designed to improve the range of movement in particular problem areas. Remedial exercises undertaken by the individual, supplement treatment.
Naturopathy is a system of healing which seeks to promote health from within, by encouraging the body's own inherent power to heal itself and regain harmony and balance. This is done by treating the whole person, body, mind and spirit, not simply an isolated organ or system. Individual food intake is not the primary consideration in every case, but it is in many. Naturopaths emphasise the need for the change from an unbalanced diet to one graduated to the need and capacity of the individual. Food supplements and exercise programs may also be recommended.
Cranial Osteopathy is a subtle form of hands-on treatment using very gentle pressure to release stresses throughout the body, primarily done through the spinal fluid. It is especially effective and safe for treating babies, to help alleviate crying, colic, wind, sleep and feeding problems and other post-birth trauma.
Trigger Point Therapy uses the application of pressure to specific locations throughout the body, typically muscles, where tension, stress and hypersensitivity have built up. By pressing on these knotted areas in a controlled sequence, relaxation of the muscles can occur, thereby relieving pain and improving mobility. Using this approach manipulation of the bones is rarely necessary.
